Astoundingly informative piece here Noel! The denizens of this country stand at a crossroad between fascism and democracy, I fear for the worst, unless the insurrectionist organizers and head of those responsible, are yeeted from our system of governance!!
I just signed a petition about removing Santos, but then I thought hmmm they elected ( sort of ) Trump with all his criminality in full view, as well as the 147 Republican politicians who were going to dispute Bidens win on Jan6 they still hold office😡Crime in real time with no consequences! No doubt MCcarthy got a message from the phone in president among others on the Maga strategy. Hoping justice comes soon🤷♀️
Excellent column, once again. You have said it all beautifully, so I'll just add 2 cautions:
1) I don't believe there's even 1 trustworthy GOP House member at this point. Many told themselves they would 'work it out in committee', some tell themselves that they'll never vote for rules that will gut leadership power and turn the House into a circus...but we all know they're lying to themselves and each other. They'll fall in line because that's what today's Republicans do.
2) I have very little faith in DOJ. Even in the highly unlikely event that Trump and a few lawyers are indicted, Trumpism is here to stay. Too many people believe that there will be a massive roundup of criminal elites by DOJ. This will not happen. This myth might keep fear and anger at bay, but it breeds complacency and cynicism. If this country is to be saved, we'll have to do it ourselves.
I had hoped those “few good men” would have endorsed a more reasonable leader perhaps with the support of the Dems. As that did not happen we now must rely on them to get anything done. Not sure how optimistic we can be given all 200 of them went along with McCarthy 15 times with not one defection even as McCarthy made more and more concessions.
When I was six, a kid showed me a knife he concealed and had at school. I’m nearly 70. I’m saying this because children are stupid and when they are chronically angry and chronically ignored this happens. Schools don’t have the mechanism anymore to intervene in a meaningful and helpful way to the family. Families are also in trouble taking care of kids and teaching them right from wrong, then there are families who are loose with firearms. This event really sparked this memory for me. PS, I reported it to a teacher and the matter was looked into. We are in a crisis in politics and the economy. The tragedy is the lack of upbringing and also the lack of love so many kids are getting. This gun near tragedy for the teacher should grind the gears of everything to a halt but this won’t and neither will any one event.
With Jack now here and hiring 2 more prosecutors, I have hope for turning this around. The more aggressive they get, the more people will be running for cover. The worst president in history should be facing a reconing he can't lie his way out of. The rest of GOP will flee. They are cowards and bullies. Here's hoping the whole criminal Family CRIMINAL Administration goes down with him. As always Noel..Thank you. ))
