The next 250 years of this republic will be vastly different than the first because of the presidency of Donald Trump; the most corrupt man to ever hold public office, let alone the presidency.
While it is impossible to calculate the magnitude of psychological damage Trump has inflicted on the American people and the rest of the world, it is worth noting that the continued defeats of his executive orders from the Supreme Court and other federal judges are adding up. The Republicans in Congress are fully aware that their number is up come November. The tide is turning. The momentum from freedom-loving Americans who hunger for the return of a true democracy, and the right to live in freedom and peace, is too great for the Trump regime and MAGA to overcome. Thank you for once again illuminating the epic criminality and grift of Donald Trump and his family, and of those who are beholden to him, Noel. It is your patriotism and courage to speak out as an actual Trump subject matter expert that is so inspiring, and a beacon of hope to so many. Thank you.
The sad realization that our country is so divided comes to light with my in-laws. Constant Fox watching, racists, hateful people who work for the FAA. Was it a glimmer of hope to hear them bash the renaming of the Palm Beach Airport? Or perhaps the new work rules Duffy put in place that actually impacts their work day? Maybe so until I mention how many people are dying with the cancelation of USAID and they compare that to their new work conditions. Yep. Nothing says MAGA like comparing death with work. They are beyond despicable and the perfect example of hate. Yes. I hate them both but tolerate them for my husband. Am thankful he is nothing like them. Thanks again Noel.
We should mark this moment as one in which we reclaim our power as a people to stand up to tyranny, remembering that bravery is our birthright…..exactly.
Thank you for another insightful, articulate and candid piece on what is happening in our country along with encouragement to re-define who we are and what we are willing to do to get there.
As always your insights are appreciated. As dismal as things are these days there’s always the knowledge that the old psychopath will not be around forever. Unfortunately the damage he’s doing to the world as well as the people in our country is going to take decades to fix. How can so many people be so blind?
Thanks Noel. You always best organize and index our daily national incubus to help us gird up for yet another week of this humiliating ordure. Totally agreed- the source of our despondency isn’t mysterious at all. Our present reality stinks simply because of REPUBLICAN ORTHODOXY. The world is on fire because climate science denialism is a lanyard the free market fundamentalists wear to their end times mixers.. our legislature and now judiciary are auction houses and brothels as “conservatives” refuse to support strict campaign finance limitations. Everything is now gamified/enshitified as a price gouge gang bang and Wall Street is a rigged conclave casino as the GOP is so utterly repelled by anti-trust enforcement and even the most essential regulations. It’s a party mystified by the supply-side snake charmers insisting on tax breaks for the plutocracy while always leaning into middle eastern adventurism to usurp more oil to compound ALL of the above. We have mass shootings every day because only the misinterpreted 2nd Amendment is sacrosanct for the Earth 2 denizens. Other than Eisenhower building the interstates and Nixon starting the EPA, it’s a party committed only to the rollback of this country’s few attempts to level things off after the whole “pesky” land theft, apartheid, genocide, slavery “miscues” that they fight so hard to keep out of school books and classrooms. This Us v Them worldview.. of callousness and paranoia and grievance made a sloshing radioactive colostomy bag like Dump almost inevitable…
Right on, Noel. One would think that Southerners would recognize a New York carpetbagger a mile away. Trump is everything they loathe about Yankees...oh, but his Kool-Aid is so sweet. Unbelievable.
"No Kings" needs to be redone as "No King Donald," "Declaration of Independence 2026: No Mad King Donald." We need great p.r., My neighbors see gas at lower prices, thanks to manipulation, and their plush portfolios aren't causing any harm. So how do we "awaken" the comfortable to understand that our democracy is hanging on a thread? Over 50% had no idea why this July 4th was a tad special? 25% of GOP want a dictator. We need history/civics/government teachers to come up with tons of PSAs to "fire hose" the voters to understand what's at stake this November.
We need NYT to spell it out every day what this grifting King is stealing above the fold 24/7. Or one or all of the Senate or Congress Dems writing op-eds regularly or take turns. Spell it out. We are all too content to dig deep on own.
Anne, excellent point, but we know that today no "legacy media" will tell the truth. I'm a retired history/government/law instructor and in 1776 they had Committees of Correspondence, pre-Internet mass communication. Perhaps we might all decide as individuals to tell the truth every day to our entire Contact List. FOX et al have daily talking points to disperse. perhaps we could take a few from Noel, Meidas, etc. and do a daily mailing until November. Might that work??
As per usual you have leveled a fair and accurate description and depiction of this absolutely vile demonically animated creature that has regrettably hijacked and infested our democratic republic. He's been a metastasizing tumor encroaching and poisoning every facet of our society, both foreign and domestic..

Hi Lynn, couldn’t agree more.

Won’t happen with next generation running NYT.
