In 1985 I sat in the uppermost tier of Giants Stadium for the first night of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band’s triumphant homecoming, after the stratospherically successful release of ‘Born in the USA’.
I would see Bruce at a Rutgers student lounge called the Ledge, back in the days when he & his entire band were living in a camper trailer. LOL. He also sang "Happy birthday" to my dentist one nite at a restaurant in Deal! (Patti's home town.)
Absolutely exquisite! I do not want to put a burden on you, but I feel like if you stop writing, I will probably stop breathing. I read your mesmerizing pieces and breathe and then just wait for the next one. You are a gifted writer, an inspiring person and I feel privileged to be part of your life in some small way. And also… my dad was a wonderful pianist and my childhood was spent watching my parents friends gathered around a piano singing while my dad played. I grew up with great music always playing somewhere in the background and a love of music and lyrics…a little more Sondheim than Springsteen …but inspirational nevertheless. Thank you again!
I’ll think of this piece every time I hear you strumming guitar on your podcast. Happy you’ve met and worked with one of your heroes—and he’s not an asshole like some of them turn out to be. 🎸
What a masterful piece, Noel! Thank you for sharing these amazing memories and lending your insight into the bigger picture. ☮️ Music is the tapestry that connects us all.
Noel, I love your thoughts, observations, and experiences. Thank you for your humanity.
I’ve been a fan for 35 years
It’s so great to hear he’s as genuine ‘backstage’ as his forward facing persona is
This is often not the case
Another gem Noel! Thx
Thanks for sharing this.
