The irony of Donald Trump speaking the other night in New York City at the Al Smith Dinner was not lost on those of us who see the good that has been done in the world on behalf of Catholic Charities.
Dad worked for Catholic Charities for 35 years as a social worker. One of its missions is to assist refugees and immigrants into communities. In the 60's and 70's, even with six children, there were always extra place settings at holidays for the Cuban refugee children at our table. Dolan invited an anti-immigration racist who supports deportation to be the guest speaker. I'm no longer a practicing Catholic and the hypocrisy on display at the Al Smith Dinner is sadly only part of the reason. My parents lived their faith but the organization they spent their lives dedicated to no longer exists.
I was sooo disgusted by that Dinner the other night, Noel. It made my head explode! The man is beyond vile! And people are laughing and appaulding? WTAF??? Aaarrgghh! It's infuriating. What is wrong with people? And what was he doing there anyway? The man is a criminal! He's a fraud, a con man, a traitor, a felon convicted on 34 counts (so far), an adjudicated rapist! Sorry for ranting at you, Noel. Thank you for writing more of your brilliance. ❤️💙💖💙💙💙☘️
Beautifully written. Your Irish ancestors' faith remind me of my parents who spent their lives quietly and without fanfare doing whatever they could for those in need.
The leadership of the Catholic Church in America has demonstrated where their loyalties lie and their disdain is focused, I.e., multi-racial, multi-ethnic, social justice and secular democracy. As my Scot grandfather used to say, “on their heads be it.”
As usual, you hit the nail on the head. I am flabbergasted that Dolan sat alongside Trump and yukked it up with him. I am a former Catholic. I don’t see how I could ever go back when the church continues to show us who they really are. And it’s not good!

Preach, Noel! Oh, I remember Pataki. He was quite the elitist.
Awesome as expected.❤️

Once again, Noel offers prescient & timely comments - just finished “Opus” the new book on the history of Opus Dei. WOW!
All good points that hit the nail on the head, as usual. Excellent!
I love your writings and videos. You would be a great guest for primetime interview. 60 minutes or with a panel.
I upgraded my subscription, to yearly.
Your work needs to be shared with all SM sites. Exposure is key.
Let them open their minds, or weep. But people need to hear the info and experience you have with this criminal.

Well reasoned and well said, as usual Noel. Thank you!
