Our hands seem and feel so tied until we can be without the dark cloud. Every attempt to move forward with anything seems met with a bleak understanding it will all be erased in a blink.

We knew this time period was going to be extremely tough. It is. Keep pushing through.

We need nuclear power. It's clean, it's safe (despite the irrational fear of "forever" waste), it's energy dense so we don't have to carpet the planet with solar- and wind-collecting crap, and it should be cheap but isn't yet because of a regulatory Catch 22. Our government should be pushing development hard, but I don't think that's happening yet. Let some people get rich off of an energy source that's not going to kill off the species. We need nuclear.

Do these money grabbers have a plan for a new place to live once they’ve totally destroyed this one?🤷‍♀️ love your podcasts. You have more than enough material for a book…or two but do you have the time to pull one together?

Thank you for another thought provoking piece. It's very easy to get frustrated by all the greed and harmful indulgences of the few, but it's also hopeful to see so many fighting for the changes we need to save out planet. Your articles give me hope that people are still fighting to save our planet.

It's too late Noel, humans fcked it royally. Limit your driving by all means, it will help you sleep at night, but the end is already in motion, it only gets worse from here. Humans are non-officially on the endangered list & we deserve to be. I'm so sad that we are taking down so many other species of flora and fauna with us. And to think of what we had! Wow! And we trashed it. Go figure 🤷‍♀️✌

Hi, Belleo. You know Big Oil and the politicians they own want you to think that, right? Saying this gently—every time you type or say this to someone, you're doing Big Oil's work for them. If you enjoy reading, check out Michael Mann's book The New Climate War. He talks about how doomerism is one of Big Oil's tactics. Peace.

I hear you. However I am not a doomer I'm a realist. The planet is soon to be in a climate loop and nothing can be done to stop it. Humans have been warned for decades and have done nothing; we are at the too little too late stage. I follow the science. Look around you at what is currently happening in the world - bushfires then floods in Greece & Spain, floods in Libya, not completely a result of climate change, also partly the fault of the warring political parties however, those wars I speak of will get worse, & there will be more countries involved when staple crops start to fail & people have nowhere to live & nothing to eat. California is burning, parts of Canada is on fire. Meanwhile storms and cyclones are brewing on the East coast of the USA due to the high temperature of the Atlantic ocean. There will only be more refugees flocking to Western Europe, Nth America and, where I live, Australia as their countries become inhabitable. 1 - 2° increase in temp is now pretty much a given, once that tips us into a climate loop (which it will), it's game over. At this point it doesn't matter what big oil does. Unless the inhabitants of the Western world make drastic changes to how they live their lives, nothing is going to big enough to improve our predicament. But, people in the western world aren't going to change. People in the USA will still buy their massive trucks to drive to the shops in, Australians are following suit. People will continue to fill the shopping malls buying crap they don't need, worshipping at the capitalism altar. Big oil isn't the problem, wealthy westerners are, we are. We're still flying to go on overseas holidays, still buying crap that is made with oil - clothing, furniture, cars, etc. Still buying stuff that is packaged in plastic made from oil. Pretty much everything comes wrapped in oil, I mean plastic, sometimes more than one layer! You're kidding yourself if you think we can somehow stop climate change wreaking havoc, by simply using your keep-cup and cotton shopping bag. Personally I think Michael Mann is not helping. Blame big oil all you want, like he does, to what end? Humans are ultimately at the front of these organizations- oil companies, governments, lobbyists et al. I'm no fan of big oil, I fcking despise and eschew plastic, I hate the people that have overseen the destruction of the natural world, and that includes big oil and politicians who cashed in, and are still cashing in. We've now had 27 COPs . 27!!! It should have needed only 1 or 2 for humans to realise if we don't get active, we're screwed. But 27 COPs later, very little has changed. Countries are fighting over who gets to host COP 29 because it's a boost to the economy for the countries that do. Oh the irony. But the best part, the most chilling part, is where COP28 is being held. Dubai! I mean OMG! If you haven't realised we're all being trolled by the super, douper wealthy arseholes of the world, you're in for a shock in the next decade or so. Enjoy your life while you can 😊

NB. Despite my view that it is game over for the humans, I still do all that I can to walk as gently as possible while here. If only to know that I tried my best, I can sleep at night knowing that I have nurtured nature in my little plot, I have acted in kindness & consideration for the creatures I share my space with. I consume what I need, rather than what I want. I Refuse, Reduce, Recycle, Repurpose and Reuse as part of my lifestyle and I promote it to & encourage others to do the same (most don't). So I am doing nothing for Big Oil. I don't see the majority of people who actually believe in anthropogenic climate change doing same, they talk the talk but not walk the walk. Thus, we are doomed. ✌

I agree with much of what you say, except, as I mentioned, doomerism has been stoked by Big Oil, as is the idea that we shouldn’t blame them. We can and should blame Big Oil. They knew they were fueling climate change long before the rest of the world did, let it rip, then lied about it. And yes, we need significant lifestyle changes and that’s going to be a tremendous challenge. Both things can be true at the same time. I appreciate that you do your part.

The planet isn’t going anywhere for about 7.5 billion years. As it lurches forward battered and bruised, humans will still be living on it for the foreseeable future. And 10 of those humans are my nieces and nephews. Every fraction of a degree that we can limit global heating means less catastrophe in their lives. For the next generation, we don’t throw up our hands and let the wealthy few win, we fight. ☮️

I hear you, I have 5 nephews and 2 nieces and it really does pain me that their future is going to be so challenging, especially given how good the last few generations have had it. 😔

Right? I really hope that if they have kids—and I know a lot is already locked in—but I hope by then they can tell their kids that solutions are kicking in and a leveling off is on the horizon. 🤞 Have a great rest of your day.

On another note, I can't believe he wears Brioni. I have always wondered why he wears such cheap, ugly, and poorly fitted suits when supposedly appearance is so important to him. Are you sure?

Thank you again, Noel, for your heartfelt and thoughtful analysis. You probably saw billionaire Tim Gurner's awful video interview where he admits that he wants unemployment to go up as high as 40% or 50% so that workers would not be so arrogant and demanding. Turns my stomach. The Business Plot class is finally taking its masks off. https://www.rawstory.com/tim-gurner-video/

Well written, as always, Noel. The hard-to-read, inconvenient truths you share here must continue to be published and promoted over and over so they are not swept under the rugs of the rich who don't want anyone trying to stop them. Thank you for your work.
